Our team here at Class Leasing keeps a very close eye on emerging technologies that could help to improve the efficiency of our business and cut costs. That’s why, like most everyone else, we are fascinated by 3D printing and its potential impact on the modular building process. (check out what they’re doing in Singapore!)
Here’s a little “Modular Building 101” for those still learning: The modular building process can be described as “fabricating buildings indoor, assembly-line style.” That means that each step of the construction process is carefully monitored and everything comes together much quicker (and much more affordably) than traditional construction would. After all, bad weather will never stall construction because your modular structure is simply delivered to your site. The process is so widely used that, probably stepped inside a prefabricated structure without even realizing it.
So, you can see how utilizing 3D printing is in line with our interest. Unfortunately, the technology is not sufficiently advanced enough for us to use in our production facilities. 3D printing is limited to only a select few materials (ceramics, resins, plastics, and some metals) which is far less than that which is necessary to develop modular buildings. Additionally, the size of printer required for such a task would be enormous!
Though the time might be far off, 3D printing just might become a useful tool for us to provide you with the highest quality of modular construction. Until then, we’ll use our tried and true construction process to bring you the very best!
